Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Pharmacy Technician to join our team at Hawthorn Medical Centre. As a Pharmacy Technician, you will play a vital role in supporting our pharmacists and healthcare professionals in providing high-quality patient care.

Main Responsibilities
  • Provide support to clinical pharmacists in managing daily patient prescription requirements, including resolving patient and pharmacy queries.
  • Manage and process discharge summaries and clinical letters.
  • Undertake patient-facing and patient-supporting roles to ensure effective medicines use through shared decision-making conversations with patients.
  • Review patient medication and run medication review clinics, either patient-facing or virtually, including in care homes.
  • Carry out medicines optimisation tasks, including effective medicine administration, supporting medication reviews, and medicines reconciliation.
  • Provide specialist expertise to address public health and social care needs of patients, including lifestyle advice, service information, and help in tackling local health inequalities.
  • Manage MHRA alerts and actions, including leading the receipt and understanding of the alert, communicating with PCN contacts, and completing associated actions.
  • Undertake clinical audits, supporting quality improvement measures, and contributing to QOF and enhanced services.

Person Specification
  • Professional registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
  • BTEC/NVQ level 3 or equivalent in pharmaceutical sciences.
  • Evidence of continued professional development (CPD).
  • Previous experience working in primary care is desirable.
  • Relevant advanced theoretical and practical knowledge of general practice and evidence-based medicine.
  • An appreciation of the NHS agenda and government targets.
  • Awareness of systems to support management of patients in a primary care setting.
  • Good clinical pharmacy knowledge, including terminology.
  • An appreciation of the nature of primary care prescribing, concepts of rational prescribing, and strategies for improving prescribing.
  • Knowledge and understanding of pharmacy law and ethics and current legislation.
Skills and Competencies
  • Computer literate with an ability to use the required GP clinical systems and Microsoft Office packages.
  • Able to analyse and interpret prescribing data.
  • Has attention to detail, able to work accurately, identifying errors quickly and easily.
  • Able to effectively manage allocated resources.
  • Works effectively independently and as a member of a team.
  • Flexible approach to meet service needs and ensure a stakeholder-focused response.
  • Self-motivated and proactive.
