Trainee Speech and Language Specialist

We are excited to announce an opportunity within our Speech and Language Therapy Department at Transformationunitgm.
We seek to recruit a skilled clinical professional to become part of our Surgical Speech and Hearing Team. Referrals are managed through surgical pathways, encompassing ENT, Complex Airway, Cleft, Plastics, and Maxillofacial.We are eager to attract candidates with prior experience working with children and young people (CYP) as well as those looking to transition their expertise from the adult sector.
You will possess a solid history of supervising personnel, alongside project management and transformation capabilities.Your role will involve collaborating to ensure expert and efficient clinical care across the surgical speech specialties, with direct management support from the Team Leader for Surgical Speech Services.
You will operate as an independent practitioner, utilizing the Department's supervision framework, while seeking and maintaining peer support from other specialized practitioners in accordance with Clinical Governance and professional standards.It is essential to keep the designated Team Leader/Clinical Expert updated on significant service matters, including shortages, service pressures, feedback, and to assist the Team Leader in overseeing the organization of the broader clinical section, providing reports on highly specialized caseloads when required.
You will engage in managerial projects in partnership with speech and language therapy colleagues.You will initiate, plan, and execute research, development, and audit activities in collaboration with the Team Leader, Head of Speech and Language Therapy, and the multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications:
- Recognized Speech and Language Therapy Qualifying Degree or equivalent
- Registered Member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists
- Recognized postgraduate training in communication difficulties related to voice, complex airway, and head and neck surgical interventions (Adults and/or Children)
- Health Professions Council license to practice
- Training in clinical and student supervision
- Post-accreditation Master's Degree
Experience in assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and management of children with communication difficulties arising from complex voice and head and neck disorders, including structural and neurological changes and complex airway issues.
Evidence of providing Speech and Language Therapy interventions for children/young people/adults with structural and/or functional neurological communication challenges who are part of a head and neck team.
Experience in supervising student clinical practice is essential.Experience in utilizing both informal and formal speech, voice, and language assessment techniques and tools for children across various age groups is required.
Evidence of Level B EDS competencies and their application within clinical practice for either adults and/or CYP is necessary.Experience in a hospital environment is preferred.
Skills in communicating assessment outcomes and management plans to relevant internal and external professionals, such as pediatricians, schools, speech and language therapists, and play workers, are essential.
Demonstrable expert specialist skills in managing communication issues related to individuals with complex special needs are required.
Proficiency in applying assessment and treatment methods suitable for children and/or young adults presenting with Organic and Functional Neurological Voice, Speech, and Airway disorders is necessary.
A solid understanding of IT applications, including Microsoft Office software, is expected.
Presentation skills training and experience in delivering presentations to diverse audiences are advantageous.
Skills in leading service delivery aspects, such as service transformation, audit and evaluation, liaising with internal and external stakeholders, and supervising and managing staff, are essential.
