Position Overview

We are pleased to announce an opportunity for a new substantive Consultant in General Paediatrics, specifically with a focus on Cardiology. This role is part of our ongoing Consultant expansion initiative.

This position offers a unique chance to become a member of our esteemed Trust, recognized for its commitment to excellence in healthcare.

Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is a leading acute Trust in the North West, providing a comprehensive range of specialties and serving as a Tertiary Centre for various advanced medical fields.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will integrate into a dynamic paediatric department, which includes 20 WTE Consultants, alongside specialists in Paediatric Neurology and Community Paediatrics. The primary location for this role will be at our main hospital.

Collaboration with Paediatric Cardiologists and fellow Paediatricians will be essential. The role includes participation in the general paediatric on-call rota, which is set to evolve into a 1 in 12 non-resident on-call schedule. Additionally, the 'Consultant of the week' role encompasses an evening resident shift in the paediatric assessment unit, working closely with junior and middle-grade doctors. There is no obligation for neonatal coverage.

Qualifications

Essential Criteria

  • Full GMC Registration and Licence to Practice
  • MBBS or equivalent qualification
  • Must be on the Specialist Register (or eligible within a specified timeframe)
  • MRCPCH

Desirable Criteria

  • A higher qualification such as MD or PhD.

Management Skills

  • Demonstrated Clinical Leadership
  • Commitment to clinical audit and service improvement

Desirable Criteria

  • Participation in management, teaching, appraisal, and mentorship courses.

Experience

  • Over five years of experience at a middle-grade level in general paediatrics.
  • Experience in safeguarding medical assessments and report writing.

  • Experience in subspecialties that align with departmental needs.
  • Experience in teaching both undergraduate and postgraduate students.
