Position Overview

The Workforce, Training and Education Division within the NHS England Finance and Planning Directorate is seeking to appoint a Senior Finance Officer.

This role presents an exceptional opportunity to engage in pivotal initiatives that bolster the NHS. Our responsibilities include:

  • Collaborating with governmental bodies to finalize NHS funding;
  • Ensuring adherence to the NHS's annual financial plan;
  • Determining the allocation of funds across various NHS services and regions;
  • Supporting innovative projects aimed at enhancing patient care and experience;
  • Establishing the financial and performance objectives for the NHS each year;
  • Reporting on NHS expenditures related to service provision annually;
  • Investigating optimal financial resource utilization within the NHS;
  • Assessing how investments in infrastructure or equipment can elevate patient care and experience;
  • Evaluating national resource utilization to enhance healthcare outcomes, diminish disparities, and promote health.

As a Senior Finance Officer, you will play a crucial role in delivering comprehensive business partnering support to budget managers and service delivery leaders.

Your responsibilities will include providing precise and reliable financial data that aligns with the established financial reporting cycle, encompassing monthly forecasts and annual budgets.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Possession of an NVQ Level 4 qualification in a relevant field or equivalent experience.

Knowledge

  • Understanding of financial policies and guidelines within the organization, ensuring accountability, transparency, and integrity in all activities.
  • Application of best practices in accounting and industry standards.

Skills

Essential

  • Ensuring timely and accurate recording, referencing, reconciling, and reporting of financial information in accordance with established financial protocols and audit standards.
  • Managing transactions in compliance with financial regulations and maintaining records as per best practices and audit requirements.
  • Monitoring progress against established targets, reporting as necessary, and addressing any discrepancies.
  • Assisting in the preparation of various reports (daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual) to keep senior stakeholders informed.
