The Early Help Service plays a crucial role within the Children, Young People and Learning Directorate. We collaborate with children, families, and young individuals to ensure that every child has the opportunity to reach their full potential. Our work involves close cooperation with social care to guarantee that all families receive the appropriate assistance and safeguarding from the relevant sectors of children's services.
Early help provides families with accessible and coordinated support tailored to their needs. This support spans a range of approaches, from universal preventative measures to targeted interventions for families facing complex challenges. Our goal is to address and mitigate issues before they escalate.
The Opportunity
Salary: £27,334 - £29,777 per annum
Working Pattern: Full time (37 hours per week)
Contract: Permanent
Location: Chichester area
Candidates must be able to travel throughout the county, including to locations that may not be easily accessible by public transport.
As a Family Support Worker, your role will involve assessing the needs of children, young people, and families to facilitate, coordinate, and deliver necessary support. You will focus on enhancing their outcomes and experiences, working to prevent issues from becoming more severe.
A key aspect of this position is providing direct support and interventions through our Whole Family Approach, which is customized to address various challenges faced by children, young people, and their families. This method of working is essential in ensuring the safety of children while fostering positive change within families.
Strong partnership skills are essential for developing and maintaining effective relationships with parents, families, and various partners, including Education, Health, Police, and Children's Social Care, to achieve beneficial outcomes for all children and young people.
We seek an individual with experience in working with children, young people, and families, who possesses emotional resilience and a genuine passion for supporting a diverse range of individuals within our communities.
Experience and Skills
Key Skills:
- Effectively supports families in crisis, managing anxieties and adhering to role boundaries.
- Manages casework efficiently with children/young people and their families, identifying needs, setting objectives, and reviewing progress.
- Engages creatively in partnership with children/young people and their families to facilitate positive and lasting change.
- Works in an empowering manner with families, emphasizing their collective strengths and resources, utilizing a solution-focused approach.
- Reflects on personal practice and learns from experiences, taking responsibility for performance and being proactive in professional development.
- Analyzes and interprets complex information to prioritize needs and make recommendations that lead to positive outcomes.
Qualifications and/or experience:
- NVQ level 3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent qualification, demonstrating the ability to work with children/young people and families or relevant experience.
- Significant experience in supporting children/young people and their families during crises, employing a variety of direct work interventions.
- Experience in a multi-agency context, demonstrating an understanding of various roles and effective collaboration methods.
- Knowledge of child and adolescent development and age-appropriate behavior relevant to the Early Help service.
- Understanding of current childcare legislation and policy.
- Familiarity with safeguarding policies and procedures.
- Valid driving license and access to a vehicle, with the ability to travel independently around the county.
