Job Title: Learning Support Assistant

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Learning Support Assistant to join our team at a secondary school in Portsmouth. As a Learning Support Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students across the school, both in the classroom and through targeted small group interventions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support students in whole-class settings, helping them to engage fully in lessons and reach their potential.
  • Provide one-to-one and small group interventions for students requiring additional support, adapting learning materials to suit individual needs.
  • Assist teaching staff in creating an inclusive learning environment, offering practical support to ensure all students can access the curriculum.
  • Monitor student progress and report on their development to teachers and senior staff, helping to tailor support strategies.
  • Promote positive behaviour and encourage student engagement, fostering independence and confidence in learning.
  • Support students with specific learning needs, including those with SEN, by providing tailored assistance in accordance with their learning plans.
  • Help prepare classroom materials and resources to ensure lessons run smoothly.
Requirements:
  • Be organised, proactive, and committed to the role of supporting students.
  • Have previous experience as a Learning Support Assistant or in a similar educational setting.
  • Be able to work collaboratively with teaching staff and the wider school team.
  • Have a patient, empathetic approach, with a genuine passion for helping students overcome barriers to learning.
  • Be flexible and adaptable, able to support students with a range of abilities and needs.
  • Have excellent communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
