Supporting Students in Portsmouth

We are seeking dedicated and enthusiastic Learning Support Assistants to join our partner secondary schools in the Portsmouth area.

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) difficulties, and behavioural challenges.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide individualised support to students, helping them engage with the curriculum and achieve their personal learning goals.
  • Work alongside teachers and the SENDCo to deliver customised learning and support plans that meet the unique needs of each student.
  • Assist the class teacher in creating a positive and inclusive learning environment by helping with classroom management, resource preparation, and supporting pupils' learning.
  • Support students in developing confidence, resilience, and independence through structured guidance and encouragement.
  • Help manage and promote positive behaviour, using appropriate strategies to support students in overcoming behavioural barriers.
  • Keep accurate records of student progress and behaviour, providing regular updates to teachers and support staff.
  • Collaborate with external professionals, such as Educational Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists, and Occupational Therapists, to ensure a holistic approach to student development.
Requirements:
  • Prior experience working with children or young people in an educational setting is essential.
  • Experience supporting students with SEND or SEMH needs is highly desirable.
  • A caring and understanding nature, with the ability to build strong relationships with students, staff, and families.
  • The ability to be flexible and responsive to the varying needs of pupils and the school environment.
  • A proactive and collaborative approach to working with colleagues and contributing to the wider school community.
  • A strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
