Job Title: Learning Support Assistant

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Learning Support Assistant to join our team at Teaching Personnel in the Portsmouth area.

About the Role:

This is an exciting opportunity to work with students who require additional support, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) difficulties, and behavioural challenges.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide individualised support to pupils, helping them engage with the curriculum and achieve their personal learning goals.
  • Work alongside teachers and the SENDCo to deliver customised learning and support plans that meet the unique needs of each student.
  • Assist the class teacher in creating a positive and inclusive learning environment by helping with classroom management, resource preparation, and supporting pupils' learning.
  • Support pupils in developing confidence, resilience, and independence through structured guidance and encouragement.
  • Help manage and promote positive behaviour, using appropriate strategies to support students in overcoming behavioural barriers.
  • Keep accurate records of student progress and behaviour, providing regular updates to teachers and support staff.
  • Collaborate with external professionals, such as Educational Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists, and Occupational Therapists, to ensure a holistic approach to student development.
Requirements:
  • Prior experience working with children or young people in an educational setting is essential.
  • Experience supporting students with SEND or SEMH needs is highly desirable.
  • A caring and understanding nature, with the ability to build strong relationships with students, staff, and families.
  • The ability to be flexible and responsive to the varying needs of pupils and the school environment.
  • A proactive and collaborative approach to working with colleagues and contributing to the wider school community.
  • A strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
