Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Commercial and Technology Lawyer to join our Global Commercial, Innovation and Technology (CIT) Legal team at Barclays Bank UK PLC. As a key member of our team, you will provide expert legal advice and support to the business on commercial and technology-related matters.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement best practice legal strategies for risk management and compliance in commercial and technology areas.
  • Provide legal advice and support to the business on commercial and technology agreements, including regulatory aspects, partnering with various stakeholders.
  • Represent the bank in legal proceedings related to commercial and technology areas, such as litigation, arbitration, and regulatory investigations.
  • Create and review legal documents, including agreements and licenses for commercial services, technology, software, data, real estate, and sponsorship.
  • Conduct legal research and analysis to stay up-to-date on changes in laws and regulations that may impact the bank across commercial and technology areas.
  • Develop and deliver training programs to educate employees on legal and regulatory requirements related to commercial and technology areas.
  • Proactively identify, communicate, and provide legal advice on applicable laws, rules, and regulations (LRRs) and ensure their effective allocation to relevant policies, standards, and controls.
Vice President Expectations
  • Advise key stakeholders, including functional leadership teams and senior management, on functional and cross-functional areas of impact and alignment.
  • Manage and mitigate risks through assessment, in support of the control and governance agenda.
  • Demonstrate leadership and accountability for managing risk and strengthening controls in relation to the work your team does.
  • Demonstrate comprehensive understanding of the organization's functions to contribute to achieving the goals of the business.
  • Collaborate with other areas of work to provide business-aligned support and stay up-to-date with business activity and strategies.
  • Create solutions based on sophisticated analytical thought, comparing and selecting complex alternatives, and in-depth analysis with interpretative thinking to define problems and develop innovative solutions.
  • Adopt and include the outcomes of extensive research in problem-solving processes.
  • Seek out, build, and maintain trusting relationships and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to accomplish key business objectives, using influencing and negotiating skills to achieve outcomes.
Requirements
  • Dynamic, senior qualified lawyer (Solicitor, Barrister, or similar in the UK or another comparable jurisdiction) with relevant post-qualification experience (in-house and/or private practice).
  • Strong technical knowledge of and expertise in general commercial/technology agreements, including experience in negotiating and advising on these agreements.
  • Experience in advising on these types of agreements related to the financial services industry context is an advantage but not essential.
