About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Mental Health Practitioner to join our established Mental Health Liaison Team at Weston General Hospital.

The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, be able to work autonomously, and have an interest in supporting students experiencing both physical and mental health needs.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Provide a comprehensive assessment service to students presenting with a range of undifferentiated mental health and psychological problems.
  2. Offer a mental health consultation liaison and advice service to clinical teams, assisting them to formulate appropriate plans of care and make decisions in cases where students may be exhibiting complex needs and/or challenging behaviours.
  3. Develop and implement programmes of care, without direct supervision, to support students in achieving their mental health and wellbeing goals.
  4. Provide teaching and educational programmes for all grades of nursing and non-nursing staff, as well as pre and post-registration nursing students.
  5. Participate in specific clinical projects, undertake necessary work, and facilitate meetings, liaise and/or negotiate with other staff as required.
  6. Promote a positive attitude and encourage a supportive culture in relation to mental health and psychiatric illness across the general hospital.
  7. Prompt referral to secondary mental health services, social services, and voluntary groups, as appropriate.
  8. Flexible, needs-based follow-up of individuals who require assessment following an earlier attendance after an episode of self-harm.
  9. Concise, effective liaison and feedback to clinical staff within the general hospital regarding advice on appropriate management strategies for individuals referred.
  10. Utilise a range of follow-up options and sources of help and support for students, as appropriate.
  11. Effective liaison and communication with students, relatives, carers, primary health care, and secondary mental health services.
  12. Role model clinical excellence and high standards of nursing practice to other staff.
  13. Demonstrate and apply a sound understanding of the legal and ethical issues in caring for people with mental health problems.
