Background of the Role

The HR department is an integral part of the Corporate Services team, providing comprehensive support to managers and employees on a variety of HR matters. We currently serve approximately 300 staff members, primarily located in two regions. Most HR services are managed internally, with the exception of payroll functions.

Key Responsibilities

The HR Operations and Case Management Lead will ensure the delivery of a high-caliber HR service throughout the employee lifecycle. You will provide timely and accurate support to the Head of HR, HR Business Partners, team leaders, and Directors. Your responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Overseeing a caseload of employment relations issues, including attendance management and probationary support, while assisting HR Business Partners with more intricate casework and meeting preparations.
  • Managing a small operational HR team, ensuring equitable distribution of workloads and fostering individual development.
  • Assisting HR team members with escalated or complex inquiries related to recruitment, employment terms, policies, and procedures.
  • Regularly assessing both personal and team performance against established milestones or targets to ensure a high-quality service is delivered to internal stakeholders, while proactively addressing any performance issues.
  • Evaluating processes and templates to drive continuous improvement and align with strategic objectives and changes in employment legislation.
  • Ensuring optimal use of the HR information system and management reporting tools, maintaining data accuracy.
  • Supervising internal payroll administration, ensuring timely processing and resolution of errors, and managing relationships with outsourced payroll services.
  • Coordinating audit activities, compiling relevant data, implementing recommendations, and serving as a liaison for auditors.
  • Managing the administration of employee benefits programs, including the Cycle Scheme and childcare vouchers.
  • Holding responsibility for the HR budget.
  • Facilitating recruitment efforts, collaborating with vacancy managers to provide guidance and flexible solutions in accordance with resourcing policies.
  • Supporting additional HR routine or project tasks as required.

Required Technical Skills

  • CIPD qualification (Level 5) or a commitment to work towards it.
  • Strong understanding of HR policies and current UK employment law.
  • Proficient IT skills, including experience with Excel, Word, and HR information systems.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality and discretion.
  • Experience in a dynamic HR environment, providing professional advice throughout the employee lifecycle.
  • Proven experience in managing and resolving various HR casework, including disciplinary actions, performance issues, and absence management.
  • Experience in line management or demonstrated line management capabilities.
