At Northern Marine, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Superintendent (LNG) to join our team in Clydebank. As a key member of our shipboard management team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our vessels.
Key Responsibilities:- Ensure all Company vessels under your control are maintained in a safe and seaworthy condition in accordance with client, Company, flag state, and classification society requirements.
- Act as principal point of contact between ship and shore-based staff.
- Audit the day-to-day technical running of vessels managed by the Company under your control.
- Provide advice to vessel staff and Company management within your area of expertise.
- Monitor vessels to ensure compliance with statutory requirements, including certification, safe manning, safety procedures, plant, and machinery.
- Review vessel monthly returns and ensure accurate reporting.
- Liaise with ship's personnel to ensure operational procedures are carried out safely and efficiently.
- Monitor and inspect log books, abstracts, and periodic returns submitted by vessels.
- Advising the Fleet Manager on day-to-day issues and Senior Management on ship operating difficulties and non-routine issues.
- Carrying out periodic ship visits, inspections, and drills with reporting to the Fleet Manager, Senior Management, and client as appropriate.
- Auditing of vessels as required by the Management System.
- Maintaining documentation and promulgating technical bulletins for safe and efficient vessel operation.
- Ensuring day-to-day manning of vessels with technically competent staff.
- Coordinating and monitoring the efficient, safe, and economic provision of services required for ship operation.
- Assisting the Fleet Manager in preparing annual operating cost budgets and ensuring costs associated with vessel technical operations are correctly predicted and allowed for.
- Preparing budgets and specifications for dry-docking and voyage repairs, analyzing quotations, and liaising with clients.
- Verifying and authorizing price and availability quotations for spares, supplies, and services.
- Monitoring vessel expenditure for accurate end-of-month financial reporting.
- Assisting the Fleet Manager in preparing Insurance Claim reports and submissions.
- Interviewing Masters, Chief Engineers, and other senior officers during office brief/debrief visits and participating in periodic appraisals.
- Providing cover for the Fleet Manager during periods of absence.
- Liaising with all departments involved in support to vessels under your responsibility.
- Interviewing sea staff recruits within your area of expertise as requested by the Personnel Department.
Candidate Requirements:
- Qualifications to perform as a key member of the shipboard management team to fulfill the rank of at least second engineer or chief officer.
- At sea experience with experience as part of the onboard management team (SMT).
- Onshore experience at Shipping Company – Operations.
- Knowledge of ISM/ISPS/MLC.
- Keen knowledge of vessel operations, technical, and safety procedures in either chemical, oil, gas tankers operations.
- Good financial knowledge of budgets and maintaining cost control while maintaining the company standards of safety and quality.
Desirable:
- Unlimited Chief Engineer or Master Mariners Certificate of Competency in compliance with STCW II/2.
- Degree in marine engineering or nautical science-related subjects.
- Sailing experience as chief engineer or Master.
The role offers the opportunity for Hybrid working and is dependent on commercial demands.
