Position Overview:

The Superintendent will report directly to the Fleet Manager and will be tasked with ensuring that all Company vessels under their supervision are maintained in a safe and operationally sound condition, adhering to the guidelines and directives set forth by the client, the Company's Senior Management, flag state authorities, and classification societies.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Overseeing the efficient operation of managed vessels to meet required standards, thereby minimizing downtime and preserving the client's assets.
  • Ensuring that all maritime operations, onboard activities, maintenance standards, and vessel aesthetics align with the expectations of both the client and the Company.
  • Serving as the primary liaison between ship personnel and shore-based teams.
  • Conducting audits on the daily technical operations of the vessels under management.
  • Providing expert guidance to vessel staff and Company management within their area of expertise.
  • Monitoring compliance with all statutory requirements regarding certification, safe manning, safety protocols, and machinery operations, while maintaining accurate records and liaising with classification societies and flag administrations as necessary.
  • Reviewing the monthly SFOPS 19 - Survey Report from vessels to ensure accurate reporting and managing any necessary surveys, extensions, and certifications.
  • Addressing feedback from Safety Committee Meetings.
  • Collaborating with ship personnel to ensure operational procedures are executed safely and efficiently.
  • Monitoring planned maintenance systems for effectiveness.
  • Maintaining a thorough understanding of Company policies and operational manuals to provide informed advice to ship staff and lead responses in emergency situations as directed by management.
  • Inspecting log books, abstracts, and periodic returns submitted by vessels.
  • Advising the Fleet Manager on daily operational issues and reporting any significant challenges to Senior Management.
  • Conducting periodic inspections and drills on vessels, with appropriate reporting to the Fleet Manager, Senior Management, and clients.
  • Performing audits of vessels as dictated by the Management System.
  • Maintaining essential documentation and disseminating technical bulletins to ensure the safe and efficient operation of managed vessels.
  • Overseeing the daily manning of vessels with qualified personnel possessing relevant experience.
  • Coordinating and monitoring the safe and economical provision of all necessary services for ship operations, including port services, agents, bunkering, and external contractors.
  • Assisting the Fleet Manager in preparing annual operating cost budgets, ensuring accurate predictions of costs associated with technical operations.
  • Preparing budgets and specifications for dry-docking and repair work, analyzing quotes, and coordinating with clients on dry-dock selection and scheduling.
  • Verifying and approving pricing and availability quotes from the purchasing department for vessels not under direct management, discussing any expenditures beyond authorization limits with the Fleet Manager and Senior Management.
  • Monitoring vessel expenditures to ensure accurate financial reporting at month-end, with reports submitted to the Fleet Manager for review.
  • Assisting the Fleet Manager in the preparation of Insurance Claim reports and submissions.
  • Conducting interviews with Masters, Chief Engineers, and senior officers during office visits and participating in the periodic evaluations of senior officers.
  • Providing coverage for the Fleet Manager during their business travel or leave periods.
  • Liaising with all departments that support the vessels under their oversight.
  • Conducting interviews for sea staff recruits as requested by the Personnel Department.
  • Occasional travel may be required.
  • Additional relevant tasks may be assigned as necessary.
Candidate Requirements:

Essential:
  • Qualifications to serve as a key member of the shipboard management team, fulfilling the rank of at least second engineer or chief officer.
  • Experience at sea as part of the onboard management team.
  • Onshore experience within a Shipping Company, specifically in Operations.
  • Knowledge of ISM, ISPS, and MLC regulations.
  • Strong understanding of vessel operations, including technical and safety procedures in chemical, oil, and gas tanker operations.
  • Solid financial acumen regarding budgets and cost control while upholding safety and quality standards.
Desirable:
  • Unlimited Chief Engineer or Master Mariners Certificate of Competency in compliance with STCW II/2.
  • A degree in marine engineering or nautical science-related fields.
  • Sailing experience as Chief Engineer or Master.
