Position Overview
As a Lead Technical Officer in Healthcare Operations, you will serve as the primary liaison for medical facilities requiring urgent supply deliveries, ensuring that their requests are processed and fulfilled with maximum efficiency. In addition to executing various technical and scientific responsibilities—such as overseeing the temperature of storage facilities and performing maintenance tasks—you will also play a key role in mentoring and developing junior support personnel.

We seek candidates with a level 4 qualification, such as a BTEC or HNC in a relevant scientific discipline, NHSBT Foundation Degree, or equivalent expertise and experience in a manufacturing, logistics, or supply chain setting that necessitates intermediate theoretical knowledge gained through formal education.

Ideally, you will possess a foundational understanding of basic IT applications and some experience working independently in a laboratory context. A collaborative team player, you will be adept at inspiring both yourself and your colleagues as you manage a diverse array of responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

Conduct a variety of scientific and technical tasks related to blood (and, when applicable, tissue) donations from our donors, with the assistance of the team.Provide support and training to new and less experienced team members.Perform precise, repetitive handling of equipment and blood samples/donations while regularly executing routine tasks.Manage blood bags and various types of equipment.This role requires flexibility in working hours and days, including weekends and holidays, as per departmental scheduling (unless otherwise arranged within the shift agreement) with appropriate notice.Regularly handle equipment weighing up to 13 kgs, with or without mechanical assistance, following proper training.

This position operates on a 24-hour shift basis, covering days, evenings, nights, and holidays, with some independent work involved. An 8-week shift rotation is in place, and participation in an On-call Rota for 2 out of the 8 weeks is also required.

Candidate Profile

Experience and Skills

Proven experience in supervising staff.Familiarity with Information Technology, including Microsoft Office.

Qualifications and Training

Level 4 qualification, such as a BTEC or HNC in a relevant scientific field, NHSBT Foundation Degree, or equivalent knowledge and experience in a manufacturing, logistics, or supply chain environment requiring intermediate theoretical knowledge acquired through formal training.Demonstrated commitment to personal development.Willingness to pursue further training and development opportunities.
