Job Summary

The North West School of Radiology (NWSOR) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to fill the role of Trust Specialty Training Lead (TSTL). This position will oversee the management and pastoral support for the ST1 Academy Placement, ensuring the successful delivery of educational programs and activities.

Main Responsibilities
  • Oversee trainees ST1 Academy, providing guidance and support to ensure their successful completion of the program.
  • Pastoral support for ST1 trainees in Academy, addressing their needs and concerns in a timely and effective manner.
  • Onsite commitment at Academy (agreed based on Job plan) - minimum fortnight, to ensure the smooth operation of the program.
  • Organize, conduct, and feedback end-of-year assessments for ST1 trainees, providing constructive feedback to improve their performance.
  • Complete trainee workplace-based assessments where applicable, ensuring that trainees meet the required standards.
  • Oversee FRCR Part 1 Exam Teaching, developing and delivering high-quality educational programs to support trainees in their preparation for the exam.
  • Oversee educational activities at Academy, ensuring that all programs and activities are aligned with the goals and objectives of the program.
  • Troubleshoot academy ST1, addressing any issues or concerns that may arise during the program.
  • Liaise and work with subspecialty curriculum leads, ensuring that all educational programs and activities are aligned with the goals and objectives of the program.
  • Bi-yearly meeting with Academy Director/AHoS/HoS, to discuss progress and address any concerns or issues.
  • Mid-point performance review with Academy Director/AHoS/HoS, to assess progress and identify areas for improvement.
  • Yearly Appraisal and Educator MSF, to evaluate performance and identify areas for growth and development.
  • Attend yearly academy development day meeting, to discuss progress and identify areas for improvement.
  • Attend bi-yearly STC, to discuss progress and identify areas for improvement.

Person Specification

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications, experience, and skills:

  • Consultant in Radiology on the Specialist Register.
  • Membership or Fellowship of The Royal College of Radiologists.
  • Consultant currently working in NHS in North-West England.

The ideal candidate will also possess the following desirable qualifications, experience, and skills:

  • Minimum 2 years post CCT.
  • Formal educational qualification PGCert/FHEA Accreditation or equivalent educational experience.

The ideal candidate will also possess the following essential experience:

  • Experience of organizing/delivering education programs/courses in Clinical Radiology.
  • Experience of creating both online & in-person teaching material.
  • Previous or current appointment as an Educational Supervisor.

The ideal candidate will also possess the following desirable experience:

  • Prior teaching experience within the Radiology Academy.
  • Prior Leadership role within Education/Training.

The ideal candidate will also possess the following essential skills:

  • Strong interpersonal skills, excellent written and oral presentation skills.
  • Demonstrable Leadership skills and an ability to motivate others.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, excellent written and oral presentation skills.
  • An experienced educator and trainer with a vision for developing pedagogical methods of delivery.

  • Ability to rapidly establish academic credibility.
