Position Overview

This role presents a unique opportunity to spearhead and shape the strategic direction of research in landscape ecology at the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew. You will be responsible for assembling and guiding a research team focused on assessing, defining, and monitoring biodiversity and ecosystem services, while producing innovative and impactful scientific results.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engage with citizen scientists and visitors, enhancing their experience through research initiatives.
  • Participate in postgraduate education, collaborating with esteemed institutions to offer MSc programs and PhD partnerships.
  • Provide scientific leadership to the Landscape Ecology Programme Initiative and contribute to projects on Nature-based solutions and Biodiversity Metrics.

Candidate Profile

We seek a research-driven scientist with expertise in diversity, ecology, or natural capital, demonstrated by a strong publication record in reputable journals and successful grant applications. Your work should align with landscape ecology, with a preference for experience in spatial methodologies, data science, or biodiversity metrics. A multidisciplinary background will be advantageous.

You should have a proven ability to lead a research team, showcasing skills in motivating, managing, and mentoring researchers, including fellows, postdoctoral staff, and PhD candidates. Effective communication skills are essential for engaging diverse audiences.

Work Environment
