Key Responsibilities:

  • Inspire, guide, and support a team of revenue and visiting officers to achieve outstanding performance.
  • Foster a culture of high performance, quality standards, and a customer-centric approach within the team.
  • Provide training, support, and oversight to staff, developing their skills and maximizing their potential.
  • Exhibit a comprehensive understanding of Business Rates administration and proactively learn about new legislation or guidance as necessary.
  • Communicate effectively with internal departments and external agencies to resolve issues.
  • Efficiently allocate work, offering guidance on the interpretation of regulations and legislation to meet ambitious collection targets.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in leading and coordinating relevant services, with a history of effectively supervising, supporting, and monitoring staff.
  • Strong relationship management skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and foster collaborative working relationships both internally and externally.
  • A commitment to excellence, demonstrating a proactive attitude towards delivering exceptional services in challenging circumstances and tight timeframes.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and effectively.
  • In-depth knowledge of Business Rates administration and the ability to navigate regulatory frameworks with confidence.

  • Experience in an Income & Debt related role within a local authority context.
  • Ability to prioritize competing demands and maximize the effectiveness of the team's outcomes.
  • Strong IT and technical skills.
  • A proactive approach to skill and knowledge development.
  • Competence in all aspects of business rates administration.
  • Experience in managing staff fairly and consistently to optimize each team member's performance.
  • Well-developed written and oral communication skills, capable of conveying complex matters effectively to a diverse audience.
  • A thorough understanding of business rates legislation, case law, practice, and application within a local authority framework.
  • Detailed knowledge of best practices in revenue billing and collection within a local authority setting.
