About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Business Rates Officer to join our team at Enfield Council. As a key member of our revenue collection team, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality, professional collection and assessment services for Council Tax and Business Rates.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver accurate and timely billing, collection, and recovery of Council Tax and Non-Domestic Rates.
  • Handle complex queries related to Council Tax discounts, exemptions, and liabilities, as well as Business Rates calculations and exemptions.
  • Administer day-to-day billing, collection, and recovery processes, ensuring compliance with Corporate Policies and relevant legislation.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and application of automation in service delivery.
  • Engage directly with customers via phone, email, and written correspondence to resolve inquiries and manage billing/recovery processes.
  • Attend Magistrate's Court as required for negotiation and query resolution.
  • Regularly update and communicate with your line manager regarding work changes and developments.
  • Actively promote the use of the council website for customer inquiries.
  • Adhere to the Council's Health & Safety policies and take part in training and risk assessments.
  • Comply with information security and data protection practices of the Council.
  • Participate in safeguarding practices for children and vulnerable adults.
Requirements
  • Experience in a financial or collection environment.
  • Proficient in written and oral communication, able to convey complex matters effectively.
  • Collaborative team player with strong IT and technical skills.
  • Committed to continuous professional development and self-improvement.
  • Preferably holding a business administration or professional collection/assessment qualification.
  • Familiarity with the local area and demographics is advantageous.
  • Competencies include influencing, problem-solving, adaptability, and delivering results.
  • Possess a good understanding of income billing and collection with knowledge of best practices within a local authority setting.
