Business Development Manager - Specialist Services

Biffa, a leading waste management company, is seeking a Business Development Manager to drive profitable growth and develop strategic solutions for the UK manufacturing sector.

About the Role:

  • Develop and manage a pipeline of high-value new business opportunities to deliver profitable growth for the Specialist Services division.
  • Develop and maintain total waste management solutions for the UK manufacturing sector, focusing on continuous improvement, cost saving, best practice, and environmental sustainability.
  • Propose strategic solutions that meet client needs, focusing on creating value and driving business growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement effective sales strategies to drive new business growth.
  • Manage and maintain a strong pipeline of new business opportunities.
  • Develop and present tailored commercial offerings to potential clients.
  • Effectively promote the service offering through direct communication, presentations, and tender situations.
  • Manage the entire end-to-end sales process, from lead generation to close and handover to the operations team.
  • Work closely with existing operational and account management teams to deliver the ideal solution for clients at agreed profit levels.

Requirements:

  • 3+ years of sales and development experience in a comparable field-based business development role.
  • Agile and solutions-focused development skillset.
  • Experience of developing, managing, and implementing new business services.
  • Waste industry knowledge, including relevant laws, is advantageous.
  • Proven track record in sales, selling high-value contracted services (accounts worth £500K+ per annum).
  • Presentation, selling, negotiating, and influential skills.
  • Analytical and able to quickly assess issues and recommend solutions.
  • Team player, able to work effectively across operations, marketing, bid team support, etc.
  • Robust and resilient, able to absorb pressure and respond positively.
  • Experience of building and maintaining customer relationships.
  • Determined and pragmatic approach to delivering to tight deadlines and targets.
  • Ability to communicate with conviction, plan with precision, and work well with others.
  • Computer literate with a strong knowledge of Microsoft Software such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
