Job Description

Job Title: Mechanical Design Engineer

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team at New Appointments Group. As a key member of our design team, you will be responsible for designing new products and concepts that meet our business requirements and are ready for manufacture.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and Development: Design, verify, prepare, and maintain detailed technical design drawings, schematics, and specifications using CAD software (currently Creo) and Microsoft software packages.
  • Project Management: Manage multiple projects according to the NPI (New Product Introduction) plan and resolve early-stage manufacturing issues.
  • Manufacturing Support: Prepare Manufacturing & Process Instructions for new products and support the design and development of test rigs.
  • Design Coordination: Work closely with design briefs to resolve design details or discrepancies, and coordinate drawing activities.
  • Product Compliance: Ensure products meet design objectives and compliance standards, providing a formal handover to the Manufacturing Process Engineering group.

Person Specification:

Essential Criteria:

  • Qualifications: Minimum BEng level qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related scientific subject.
  • Experience: Minimum 3 years of design engineering experience, preferably in the automotive or aerospace manufacturing industry.
  • CAD Skills: Proficient in using CREO or similar 3D CAD and product lifecycle management software.
  • Design for Manufacture: Experience in design for manufacture and assembly, with familiarity in NPI Gate review process/production readiness.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Industry Standards: Familiarity with AS9100, AS13100, AS9145 (APQP) standards.
  • Material Knowledge: Experience with material selection, plating finishes, and understanding mechanical properties of materials.
  • Design Development: Knowledge of the design development process, including risk assessment and DFMEA, DFM/A.
  • Technical Communication: Ability to clearly communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical colleagues.
