Job Overview

This role will support the specialist and principal pharmacists in leading the clinical pharmacy service to both the surgical and ophthalmic services at the trust.

Main Responsibilities
  • Ensure safe and effective medication management across the surgical and ophthalmic services.
  • Collaborate with surgeons, ophthalmologists, and other healthcare professionals to provide high-quality patient care.
  • Provide clinical expertise and support to patients and staff, promoting seamless pharmaceutical care on discharge.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of innovative pharmacy services aligned with the NHS Clinical Pharmacy agenda.
Main Duties
  • Work as part of a dedicated pharmacy team to provide and develop specialist clinical pharmacy services to the Care Group.
  • Liaise between wards, departments, and pharmacy to ensure tailored pharmacy services meet the Surgery & Ophthalmology Care Group's needs.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary teams delivering high-quality, cost-effective, patient-focused pharmaceutical care.
  • Act as a deputy for Principal Pharmacist when necessary and lead on clinical pharmacy services to sub-specialties within the Care Group.
  • Supervise rotational staff at ward level, promote safe drug use, and develop local guidelines.
  • Audit usage of medicines, assist in financial reporting, and manage drug budgets.
Person Specification
  • Registered Pharmacist with 1 year of competency-assessed and examined professional registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
  • Postgraduate Certificate in Pharmacy Practice or equivalent qualification.
  • Registered Independent Prescriber or willingness to complete.
  • Previous relevant specialist clinical experience.
