Role Overview:

YMCA George Williams, located in Southampton, is a purpose-built accommodation facility supporting 52 individuals aged 16-25, some of whom have complex needs, in their journey towards independent living. As an integral member of the Youth Engagement Team, this position will implement evidence-based and youth-centric programs for residents and the broader Southampton community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, promote, and execute engaging and pertinent activities and programs daily for young individuals
  • Provide support, mentorship, and guidance to young people in achieving their personal aspirations
  • Conduct risk assessments and assist in support planning
  • Facilitate activities that involve the wider community, including at the adjacent youth center
  • Collaborate with external organizations to provide specialized support and activities for young people
  • Advocate for young individuals and guide them in accessing appropriate agencies and services
  • Actively assist young people not engaged in education, employment, or training with job searches, training, and volunteering opportunities
  • Support the selection and onboarding process for accommodation applicants

Qualifications and Experience Required:

  • Proven experience in delivering programs within youth, adult, or community services
  • Strong advocacy for young individuals with complex needs
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed practices
  • Experience working with young people facing trauma, emotional challenges, or substance misuse is advantageous
  • Ability to respond positively and effectively to high-risk behaviors exhibited by young individuals
  • Proficient in IT
  • Understanding of safeguarding principles and procedures
  • Awareness of the challenges faced by young people
  • Commitment to promoting equality and diversity

The successful candidate will be required to undergo an Enhanced Disclosure via the Disclosure and Barring Service.
