Highway Safety Inspector

We are seeking a highly skilled Highway Safety Inspector to join our team at Lancashire County Council. As a key member of our Highways Service, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety of our highway network and protecting the county's assets.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct routine and cyclic inspections of the highway network to identify defects that pose a risk to highway users.
- Decide on the necessary actions to make safe or rectify defects, using handheld computers to receive and record inspections.
- Work outdoors for long periods in all weather conditions, walking and driving in different parts of Lancashire.
- Make accurate records and work to strict guidance and timescales.
- Interact with the public, deal with customer complaints, and undertake claim investigations.
- Provide witness statements and represent the authority in a court of law.
- A full and valid driving license is required, as you will be driving a Lancashire County Council vehicle.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential for interacting with stakeholders, including highway inspectors, engineers, managers, solicitors, and the public.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong focus on customer service and public safety.
- Knowledge of the Highways Act 1980 and national guidance on highway safety is desirable.
