Highway Safety Inspector

Lancashire County Council is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Highway Safety Inspector to join our team. As a key member of our Highways Service, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety of our highway network and protecting the county council against third-party claims.
Key Responsibilities:- Conduct routine and cyclic inspections of the highway network to identify defects that pose a risk to highway users.
- Decide on the necessary actions to make safe or rectify defects, using handheld computers to receive and record inspections.
- Work outdoors in all weather conditions, walking and driving on a daily basis in different parts of Lancashire.
- Interact with the public, deal with customer complaints, and undertake claim investigations, provide witness statements, and represent the authority in a court of law.
- Support the administration of the Highway Safety Inspection process and assist in the claims investigation process.
- A full and valid driving license is required, as you will be required to drive a Lancashire County Council vehicle.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with internal and external stakeholders, including highway inspectors, engineers, managers, solicitors, and the public.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work to strict guidance and timescales.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a flexible approach to working hours and out-of-hours work.
