Job Summary

Leonardo is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead FPGA/Firmware Engineer to join our team in Luton. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for leading the development of cutting-edge firmware solutions for advanced military platforms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of engineers in the design and development of firmware solutions for complex digital systems
  • Collaborate with industry experts to design and implement firmware solutions that meet demanding customer requirements
  • Oversee the development of firmware requirements from system specifications
  • Develop and maintain expertise in FPGA architectures, design tools, and fast interfaces
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations, such as RTCA DO-254
  • Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies, including cryptography, anti-tamper techniques, and AI
  • Communicate effectively with cross-functional teams to drive innovation and deliver high-quality solutions

Requirements

  • Proven experience in team leadership or project management
  • Expertise in design tools, such as Xilinx, TCL, Verilog, and System Verilog
  • Familiarity with FPGA architectures, such as Xilinx 7, Xilinx UltraScale, Intel (Altera), or Microsemi (Actel)
  • Experience with fast interfaces, including PCIe, Ethernet, and JESD
  • Ability to derive detailed FPGA/Firmware requirements from system specifications
  • Strong grasp of FPGA/Firmware design methodologies
  • Knowledge of cryptography, anti-tamper techniques, and AI technologies
  • Understanding of electronics testing methods and equipment
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset
  • Degree in Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, AI, Physics, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Eligibility for full SC security clearance due to the sensitive nature of the work
