Job Details

Chiltern Wood School is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join our primary team. As a key member of our staff, you will play a vital role in supporting the educational and social development of children with severe and complex learning needs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support the class teacher in delivering lessons and activities tailored to the needs of individual pupils.
  • Assist with the implementation of a "learning for living" curriculum, focusing on communication, physical, social, and emotional development.
  • Work collaboratively with occupational and speech and language therapists to ensure a holistic approach to pupil support.
  • Provide individualized support to pupils, using strategies such as communication books and low-arousal approaches.
  • Participate in training opportunities to enhance your skills and knowledge, including behavior and de-escalation techniques, occupational therapy basics, and child protection.

Requirements:
  • Previous experience in a play-based environment is desirable, but not essential, as full training will be provided.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and build positive relationships with pupils, families, and supporting professionals.
