About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Freight Train Driver to join our team at Colas Rail UK. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient driving and operation of freight trains on the LNE - Doncaster to Newcastle route.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate freight trains in accordance with laid down procedures and safety protocols.
  • Ensure the safety of the line, employees, and the public at all times.
  • Perform locomotive preparation and disposal duties, including fueling and maintenance.
  • Conduct in-service locomotive and train faultfinding, and assist in repairs as needed.
  • Record and report locomotive and train defects in accordance with company procedures.
  • Prepare locomotives for service and perform train preparation duties.
  • Assist maintenance staff and undertake weekly locomotive exams as required.
  • Work various shift patterns, including nights, weekends, and bank holidays.
  • Be prepared to lodge away from home when required.
  • Maintain the highest level of professionalism when interacting with colleagues, clients, and the public.
Requirements
  • Appropriate traction knowledge and experience.
  • Knowledge of freight rules and regulations.
  • Basic wagon knowledge.
  • Personal Track Safety certification.
  • Current route knowledge for the LNE Region is advantageous.
