As a key member of our endoscopy nursing team, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care, assisting endoscopists with diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, and contributing to the maintenance of Joint Advisory Group on GI Endoscopy (JAG) accreditation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist endoscopists with diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy procedures, maintaining the highest standards of care within the endoscopy service.
- Be responsible for the assessment of care needs and the development, implementation, and evaluation of care plans for patients undergoing endoscopic procedures.
- Support the Unit in maintaining Joint Advisory Group on GI Endoscopy (JAG) accreditation.
- Participate as a member of the IPU core nursing team with knowledge in the care of patients on the unit.
- Demonstrate high standards of individual patient care with a commitment to the development of evidence-based practice.
- Competently care for patients, including the assessment, planning, and evaluation of programs of care.
- Liaise and integrate with the multi-disciplinary team, ensuring patients receive comprehensive care and promote a team approach to working.
- Develop good working relationships and promote effective communication between all clinical grades of staff within the multi-disciplinary IPU team.
- The post holder will be proactive towards change and change management.
- Take responsibility for your own professional development.
- Monitor the progress of learners and in particular their skills in carrying out practical procedures.
- Demonstrate professional accountability.
- Act as a clinical role model for new staff, reflecting the philosophy, beliefs, and standards of the department.
- Ensure that all prescribed drugs and treatments are given correctly and in accordance with Trust policy, including the correct care and custody of controlled drugs.
- Offer help and advice to patients' relatives and friends, responding to their individual needs in a caring and supportive manner.
- Ensure safe use and efficient management of equipment and supplies.
- Communicate using a range of methods to ensure a caring, sensitive, and empathetic manner to patients and their relatives.
- Provide clear and concise patient handover to other members of the team.
- Demonstrate respect for the individual patient, ensuring religious, cultural, and social needs are considered at all times and acknowledge their individual rights.
- Recognize and report abusive behavior to an appropriate member of staff.
- Liaise, communicate, and negotiate with colleagues to ensure cooperation in achieving departmental objectives, promoting good working relationships, and establishing team spirit.
- Take responsibility for your own professional development.
- Escalate concerns in a patient's condition to senior members of the nursing team and medical staff.
- Initiate referrals to other members of the healthcare team.
- Report departmental affairs to the Unit manager/Deputy unit manager.
- Can prioritize workload to manage the care for a group of patients.
- Ensure that confidentiality is always maintained.
Requirements:
- 12 months of Band 5 endoscopy experience.
- Ability to interpret complex information when there may be frequent, unplanned interruptions throughout the shift.
- Ability to undertake a range of manual procedures, including assistance with the movement of patients and equipment.
- Ability to maneuver between patients quickly to ensure emergency situations can be attended in a timely fashion.
- Ability to work autonomously, required to act independently within appropriate guidelines, deciding when it is necessary to refer to their manager.

The Integrated Procedures Unit (IPU) is a nurse-led, fast-paced, and dynamic service, consisting of a procedures unit, interventional radiology unit, ultrasound room, surgical dressings clinic, outpatients clinic, day of surgery admissions unit, an operating theatre, and second-stage recovery bays.
