About Choreograph Create:

Choreograph Create serves as WPP's omnichannel dynamic creative optimization (DCO) platform, allowing users to synchronize advertising content (such as images, videos, and text) with real-time data (like location), transforming a single creative idea into thousands of distinct advertisements. With Create, brands can present relevant content across all major media channels, including websites, television, and social media platforms. We leverage AI and machine learning to enhance campaigns towards optimal content performance without human intervention, providing valuable insights for advertisers. Users from various sectors within WPP utilize Create to refine content for some of the world's leading brands.

Role Responsibilities:

We are in search of a results-oriented Head of Software Engineering - Ad Tech to spearhead and guide a high-performing engineering team during a phase of significant growth. You will be accountable for delivering a contemporary, large-scale SaaS solution tailored for the advertising sector, which is part of a broader suite of Choreograph offerings. Your role will involve overseeing product commitments while continuously seeking to enhance the productivity of the engineering team across all areas. You will need to coordinate efforts across departments to achieve shared objectives, ensure the engineering team is represented in leadership discussions, and cultivate a positive and productive engineering culture. Given the rapid pace of the advertising and media landscape, adaptability is essential.

Your mission will be to provide hands-on leadership, fostering a culture of cross-functional collaboration and efficient delivery of business value.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of a SaaS dynamic creative platform utilized by some of the world's most prominent brands.
  • Formulate strategies and new initiatives to advance both the department and the product on organizational and technical fronts.
  • Inspire and communicate effectively across various levels of your department.
  • Establish successful peer partnerships with other department leaders within Choreograph and WPP.
  • Maintain a consistent and effective interface between engineering, product management, and product design.
  • Cultivate leadership skills within the organization and mentor emerging leaders.
  • Develop, measure, and manage key performance metrics for your team and the product's success.
  • Drive high throughput and standardize the development process where necessary.
  • Foster a desirable and enviable engineering culture.

Required Qualifications

  • Proven experience in advertising technology (AdTech) is essential, with a strong preference for candidates with ad serving and dynamic creative (DCO) experience.
  • A demonstrated track record as an engineering leader, with experience guiding a team through significant growth.
  • A well-defined philosophy for people management applicable to both managers and engineers.
  • Experience leading a cross-functional engineering team comprising both permanent staff and contractors.
  • Ability to effectively manage a predominantly remote team, with a willingness to collaborate in-office with peers.
  • Strong understanding of business dynamics, balancing cost, speed, and quality in a fast-paced environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of software development methodologies, agile practices, and project management principles.
  • Advocacy for architecture/software design patterns and best practices in software development, with the ability to lead the team towards success.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based technologies, scalable architectures, and modern DevOps and SRE practices.
  • Experience with functional programming, particularly in Clojure/Script, is considered a bonus.
