Job Objective

To take a pivotal role in the conceptualization, execution, management, and advancement of Pharmacology instruction at both undergraduate and postgraduate tiers, ensuring an outstanding educational experience for students, while engaging in scholarly activities that enhance teaching and learning within the School of Cardiovascular & Metabolic Health.

Key Responsibilities 1.

Deliver diverse teaching, mentorship, and evaluation activities across undergraduate and postgraduate programs within the Pharmacology domain.

2.

Manage course-related administrative tasks within designated timelines, ensuring effective communication of essential information, particularly regarding assessment criteria and providing timely, constructive feedback.

3.

Contribute to the continuous development and design of the curriculum, fostering a research-oriented and scholarly approach to student learning and assessment in Pharmacology.

4.

Utilize learning technologies effectively to enhance course delivery, organization, feedback, and assessment, which may include blended and/or online formats.

5.

Adopt an inclusive and evidence-based methodology to facilitate learning in various delivery formats, such as tutorials, lectures, and problem-based learning, promoting student engagement and achievement.

6.

Engage in scholarly activities by conducting methodologically sound, educationally relevant inquiries into student learning and disseminating findings to improve personal and collective teaching practices.

7.

Foster effective relationships with students and collaborate with relevant student services to address diverse learning styles and needs.

8.

Build connections with external stakeholders to support knowledge exchange, public understanding, and outreach initiatives.

9.

Participate in activities related to student recruitment, orientation, and other initiatives that support student transitions and employability.

10.

Engage in ongoing professional development activities as appropriate.

11.

Perform any other reasonable duties as assigned by the Head of School.

Qualifications Required:

A1. A doctoral degree (PhD) or equivalent in Pharmacology or a related field.


Desirable:

B1. A postgraduate teaching qualification and/or Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy.

C1. Exceptional oral and written communication abilities.

C2. Strong interpersonal and presentation skills.

C3. Capability to work independently and collaboratively.

C4. Self-motivated with the ability to plan strategically and manage responsibilities.


For Appointment at Grade 8:

C5. Proven involvement in course and curriculum design and development.

C6. Ability to lead colleagues and manage resources effectively in support of teaching and scholarship.


Desirable:

D1. Evidence of leadership and administrative roles in teaching and learning.

D2. Capacity for independent thought leading to original hypotheses for grant-funded research.

D3. A compassionate approach to addressing student academic and personal challenges.


For Appointment at Grade 8:

D4. Skills in developing e-learning applications, particularly in Moodle.

Experience Required:

E1. Postdoctoral or relevant professional experience.

E2. Comprehensive and current knowledge of the subject area.

E3. Insight into relevant research in pharmacology or related fields.

For Appointment at Grade 8:

E5. Demonstrated excellence in teaching delivery in pharmacology or related disciplines.

E6. Experience in developing innovative and active-learning strategies that enhance student engagement.


Desirable:

F1. Background in immunopharmacology or infection pharmacology.

F2. Experience in teaching, course coordination, and assessment at various academic levels.

F3. Involvement in the design and management of innovative teaching initiatives.

F4. Familiarity with the UK Professional Standards Framework and relevant benchmark statements.


For Appointment at Grade 8:

F5. Contribution to curriculum review and evaluation processes.

F6. Experience in developing and managing postgraduate programs appealing to international students.

Terms and Conditions

Salary will be determined at Grade 7/8, with a range reflective of experience and qualifications. This position is full-time and ongoing.
