Position Overview

The College is looking to recruit a Leisure Facility Apprentice who will play a vital role within the team. This position involves various operational responsibilities, including assisting with the opening and closing of the facility, performing routine maintenance on equipment, and ensuring a clean and safe environment. The apprentice will also support the delivery of scheduled activities and services for students and staff.

Training and Development

This apprenticeship program, facilitated by Creative Sport and Leisure, spans 18 months and offers an excellent opportunity to acquire skills across diverse activities provided by the centre. Key areas of focus for all leisure team members include:

  • Leisure and fitness operations
  • Lifeguarding responsibilities
  • Swimming instruction
  • Gym training
  • Leading group fitness activities

Comprehensive training will be provided, leading to the potential achievement of nationally recognized qualifications, including:

  • Swim England's Level 1 and 2 Teaching Swimming or a STA Level 1 and 2 Certificate in Teaching Swimming.
  • A Level 2 Certificate in Fitness or Gym Instruction from accredited organizations.
  • A Level 3 Certificate in First Aid.
  • Functional Skills (English & Maths) at Level 1 and 2, if necessary.

Candidate Profile

  • Interest or background in swimming or sports.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Effective time management abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Enthusiasm for learning and obtaining new qualifications.
  • Awareness of equality, diversity, and inclusion in a leisure and sports context.

Swimming Test Requirements

  • Jump or dive into deep water.
  • Swim 50 meters in under 60 seconds.
  • Swim 100 meters continuously on front and back in deep water.
  • Tread water for 30 seconds.
  • Surface dive to the pool floor.
  • Exit the pool unaided without a ladder or steps.

Work Schedule

The position requires a commitment of 30 hours per week, as directed by the Head of Sport and Science Facilities, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary for this role will be £8.00 per hour for the first 12 months, transitioning to National Minimum Wage/National Living Wage based on age thereafter. Additional benefits include:
