About the Role

The House of Commons is seeking a highly skilled Senior Researcher to join its Research and Information team. As a Senior Researcher, you will provide briefing for Members of Parliament and their staff on UK finance and company policy and law.

The successful candidate will have excellent knowledge and understanding of company law, policy, and company information, as well as the UK financial system, institutions, and financial regulation. You will be able to absorb complex, technical material quickly and present it clearly and accurately for a non-specialist audience.

You will work effectively as part of a team, building and maintaining working relationships with a wide range of people. You will also be able to communicate complex information clearly and succinctly, using your excellent written and oral communication skills.

The role requires a high level of political impartiality and authority, and you will be expected to uphold the principles of equality, diversity, and inclusion at all times.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide briefing for MPs and their staff on UK finance and company policy and law
  • Support the broader work of the Business and Transport Section, including research work on any of the subjects covered by the team
  • Maintain good current awareness, level of knowledge, and range of contacts on specialist subjects
  • Provide advice and assistance to House of Commons and House of Lords staff, including committees, and to the staff of other Parliaments and institutions

Requirements

  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of company law, policy, and company information, as well as the UK financial system, institutions, and financial regulation
  • Ability to absorb complex, technical material quickly and present it clearly and accurately for a non-specialist audience
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and build and maintain working relationships with a wide range of people
  • High level of political impartiality and authority
  • Ability to uphold the principles of equality, diversity, and inclusion at all times
