Position Overview

The role involves working within the chemotherapy department to ensure the safe administration of anticancer therapies. The focus is on providing comprehensive support and guidance to patients, their families, and caregivers regarding all facets of chemotherapy and cancer treatment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Educate patients about their prescribed chemotherapy regimens and potential side effects.
  • Offer counseling and support to patients and their families throughout their cancer journey, whether they are newly diagnosed or receiving palliative care.
  • Confirm patient consent for treatment and ensure ongoing agreement to proceed.
  • Conduct thorough patient assessments, documenting any chemotherapy-related toxicities in accordance with established toxicity criteria.
  • Identify necessary dose adjustments based on cytotoxic drug toxicities.
  • Make protocol-driven decisions regarding treatment eligibility, considering blood parameters and overall patient performance.

Essential Qualifications

  • First Level registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
  • Accredited qualifications in Oncology, Haematology, or Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT).

Desired Qualifications

  • Post-registration qualifications in Oncology or Haematology.

Required Skills

  • Up-to-date knowledge of relevant professional and NHS policy initiatives.

Preferred Skills

  • Familiarity with audit processes and proficiency in computer applications.

Knowledge Requirements

  • Understanding of clinical trials and treatment protocols.
