Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Chemotherapy Nurse Specialist to join our team at Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our oncology department, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional care to patients undergoing chemotherapy treatment.

Main Responsibilities
  • Provide expert advice and support to patients, families, and carers on all aspects of chemotherapy and cancer treatment.
  • Inform and educate patients on prescribed chemotherapy and its potential side effects.
  • Counsel, support, and educate patients and their carers on their cancer journey, from diagnosis to treatment and beyond.
  • Ensure patients have provided informed consent for treatment and reconfirm their agreement to treatment.
  • Conduct patient assessments, recognize, and record chemotherapy-induced toxicities using common toxicity criteria.
  • Recognize dose modifications required for cytotoxic drug toxicities and make protocol-driven decisions regarding treatment suitability.

Requirements
  • First-level registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
  • Oncology/Haematology/SACT accredited qualifications.
  • Post-registration Oncology/Haematology qualifications (desirable).
  • Current knowledge of relevant professional and NHS policy initiatives.
  • Audit knowledge and computer skills (desirable).
  • Knowledge of clinical trials and treatment protocols.
