Youth Support Specialist – Chorlton

Teaching Personnel is in search of a dedicated and empathetic Youth Support Specialist to become part of an Ofsted-rated 'Good' secondary institution in Chorlton. This full-time role is set to commence immediately and will continue throughout the academic year, with the potential for a permanent position based on performance. The weekly remuneration for this role ranges from £419.25 to £500.

Position Overview:

As a Youth Support Specialist, you will be instrumental in fostering the personal, social, and emotional growth of students within the institution. Your responsibilities will include engaging with young individuals, particularly those encountering challenges, and assisting them in overcoming these obstacles to reach their full potential.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Student Engagement: Establish positive and trusting relationships with students, creating a safe and nurturing environment. You will serve as a crucial point of contact for students seeking guidance, providing both individual and group support.
  • Support and Mentorship: Aid students in surmounting barriers to their learning and personal growth. This may involve helping them cultivate life skills, offering advice on coping mechanisms, and promoting positive behaviour.
  • Intervention Initiatives: Collaborate with the school's pastoral team to design and execute intervention initiatives tailored to the specific needs of individual students. These initiatives will aim to enhance attendance, behaviour, and overall engagement with school life.
  • Parental and Community Engagement: Act as a liaison between the school, parents, and the broader community. You will work to involve parents in their child's educational journey and connect students with external support services when necessary.
  • Extracurricular Leadership: Lead and participate in extracurricular initiatives that foster social inclusion and personal development. These initiatives may encompass sports, arts, or community service projects.
  • Monitoring and Documentation: Maintain detailed records of student progress and the effectiveness of interventions. Regularly report to senior staff and contribute to the institution's ongoing efforts to enhance student well-being and achievement.
  • Safeguarding: Ensure the safety and welfare of all students by adhering to the institution's safeguarding policies. You will be responsible for identifying and reporting any concerns in accordance with school procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Experience working with young individuals, particularly those facing social, emotional, or behavioural challenges.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Empathy, patience, and resilience, with a genuine commitment to positively impacting young people's lives.
  • An understanding of the challenges faced by young individuals today, including mental health issues, family difficulties, and peer pressure.
  • A proactive and adaptable approach, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Previous experience in an educational setting or youth support environment is desirable but not mandatory.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young individuals.
