Logistics Operations Manager - Environmental Services

The primary objective of this role is to oversee, direct, and manage the logistics operations while enhancing the commercial viability of the depot and the broader organization. This is a pivotal role that demands a consistent demonstration of exceptional commercial performance and service excellence to all stakeholders. Additionally, you will be required to assist with various operations and projects as necessary, collaborating with management and other departments to ensure seamless execution of both urgent and scheduled services for our clientele.
Key Responsibilities:
Cultivate and maintain outstanding relationships with both internal and external colleagues and clients throughout the region, seek new business opportunities, and maximize potential, while ensuring regular engagement with existing clients in collaboration with the Sales, Commercial, and Marketing teams to drive repeat business and further service offerings. Promptly follow up on all assigned inquiries and leads. Ensure the CRM system is thoroughly updated and that new opportunities are communicated to relevant sales and operational teams to effectively meet business goals. Actively promote all other Group Services across various sectors whenever feasible. Oversee all financial aspects of the depot, managing and monitoring all expenditures. The role requires the ability to provide management with a detailed overview of profits and costs at all times. Efficiently manage the profit and loss and administrative functions of the depot to guarantee accurate and timely invoicing, minimize un-invoiced sales and work in progress figures, and manage depot debts. Ensure that all operational programs are strategically planned, managed, and executed to optimize efficiency, even under short notice, while delivering exceptional service to the Company's clients. Ensure that depot KPIs are achieved, including compliance with staff and SHEQ standards. The role entails monitoring and identifying training needs and planning/implementing training effectively to minimize disruptions to operations and service delivery. Ensure that vehicles and equipment are maintained in full compliance and that waste transport/storage permits are followed, with timely and accurate reporting of non-conformance and health and safety issues. Stay informed, monitor, and investigate all incidents occurring during asset deployment and report accordingly. It is the responsibility of the role to ensure incidents are addressed, resolutions identified and implemented, and customer demands are met in collaboration with relevant internal functions. Address and resolve client concerns and grievances, proposing and implementing strategies to prevent recurrence. Continuously assess operational practices and planning. The role is expected to highlight, discuss, present, and, upon approval, implement necessary changes to enhance operational effectiveness and efficiency, including the selection and use of subcontractors and suppliers when needed. Foster positive staff morale, providing hands-on support for all colleagues within the Group. Participate in the recruitment process for depot staff. Ensure that group HR policies are effectively communicated and adhered to by the workforce. Undertake any other tasks as requested by line or senior management that fall within the postholder's capabilities. Successfully manage the pipeline and forecasting, which will involve analyzing and carefully planning staff structures to promote payroll efficiency.Candidate Profile:
Essential experience in the waste management or industrial services sector. Significant background in finance, sales, and operations management, with experience in implementing sales strategies. Proficient in computer applications, particularly Word, Excel, and Outlook; capable of preparing and presenting reports at the Board level. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, staff, and clients at all levels. Knowledge of health and safety regulations; promote compliance and best practices in accordance with relevant legislation. IOSH or NEBOSH qualifications would be advantageous. Familiarity with ISO 9001:14001 Management Systems would be beneficial. Ability to meet deadlines, including immediate responses when necessary. Eligibility to work in the UK.
