We are spearheading the UK's largest train initiative in a generation – AVENTRA – collaborating with seven of the UK’s major train operating companies, while also advancing the next generation of Greater Dublin's commuter trains, DART+, alongside 54 HS2 high-speed trains in a Joint Venture. Alstom supports 66% of the UK fleet through its Services division and is recognized as the leading CP6 signalling and infrastructure provider in the UK.

With a workforce of 6,000 across the UK and Ireland, we design, manufacture, and test trains at the largest end-to-end train manufacturing facility in Derby, alongside major sites in Widnes, Crewe, Ilford, and Plymouth, as well as 30 train service depots throughout the UK&I.

Your future role

The Finance Project Manager position within the D&IS (Digital Information Services) team based in London, UK, is pivotal.

This role is integral to the Finance team, closely collaborating with project teams to assist all work package owners for designated projects. Site visits may be required as necessary.

Responsibilities include ensuring the precision of financial data reported in Project Reviews, overseeing the economic and financial management of projects in accordance with company protocols, and effectively managing risks and opportunities to optimize financial objectives while supporting the Project Manager in financial oversight. This encompasses all financial aspects of a project, including accounting, reporting, cost control, and budgeting. The role demands seamless integration within the project team and support for all work package owners, ensuring adherence to financial instructions and Alstom's RAM.

It is essential to maintain accuracy and integrity in the project finance status as reported in Project Reviews.

Key Responsibilities:


• Serve as the economic and financial advisor to the Project Manager.


• Collaborate with the Project Manager to prepare periodic Project Reviews, incorporating relevant financial analyses.


• Control and enhance project outcomes through active engagement with the Project Manager and Work Package Owners/Project Sub-system Managers.


• Critically assess estimates to complete to maximize project margins and mitigate risks.


• Ensure timely customer invoicing and actively facilitate prompt payment from clients.


• Manage cash flow and implement cash improvement strategies for the project, promoting a cash-conscious culture.


• Oversee project bonds and hedging strategies to minimize exposure, collaborating closely with the financial accountant.


• Provide comprehensive project financial reporting (orders, forecasts, weekly cash) to Unit accounting for month-end, forecasts, and budget processes, as well as to Sector as required.


• Review and analyze all Balance Sheet items related to the project.


• Manage claims administration, including documentation and reporting.


• Participate in project meetings, risk analysis sessions, and all decision-making processes concerning financial or contractual aspects of the project.


• Offer guidance and financial leadership to Project Managers for all Project Review submissions.


• Adhere to and engage in all relevant Environment, Health & Safety measures and activities.

• Proficient in MS Excel.


• Highly numerate with a strong understanding of accounting and finance principles.


• Experience with integrated financial systems.


• Effective communication skills in English (both written and spoken) across various levels.


• Ability to perform under pressure.


• Self-motivated and capable of working independently.


• Confident in collaborating effectively as part of a team to ensure consistent reporting.


• Ability to influence and instill confidence in colleagues within and outside the finance department.


• Strong organizational and prioritization skills.


• Willingness to travel to Alstom project sites as needed (approximately 1-2 times monthly).

Desirable


• Background in accounting, preferably within a large multinational organization.


• Capability to motivate others.


• ACCA / CIMA/ACA Qualified.


• Experience in contract or project accounting.


• Familiarity with SAP is advantageous.


• Strong presentation skills.


• Commitment to Environment, Health & Safety measures and activities.
