Role Overview

We are seeking a skilled Quantity Surveyor to become a vital part of our Commercial team. This role involves managing subcontract procurement and maintaining project forecasts. As the primary contact for commercial inquiries, you will engage in the preparation and submission of final accounts, quotations, and Bills of Quantities derived from project drawings, ensuring timely invoicing and debt collection.

Key Responsibilities

In your capacity as a Quantity Surveyor, you will provide informed advice, leveraging your technical knowledge effectively. Your daily tasks will include:

  • Conducting take-offs from site drawings to generate Bills of Quantities.
  • Managing cost forecasting and control processes, utilizing contract programmes and change registers.
  • Advising on contractual matters and preparing necessary correspondence.
  • Understanding project budgets, including turnover, profit/loss, and cash flow.
  • Identifying and negotiating changes in accordance with contract stipulations.
  • Analyzing contract and subcontract tenders.

Familiarity with software such as Coupa, Lisa, and Confirm is advantageous, though training will be provided. You will also be tasked with additional responsibilities as directed by your line manager, ensuring adherence to Colas' governance and policies.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The successful candidate will possess a HND in Civil Engineering or a related field, along with a minimum of three years of relevant experience as a Quantity Surveyor, particularly in civil and highway projects. Knowledge of NEC 3 and 4 contracts is a plus.

As a Quantity Surveyor, you will demonstrate excellent communication skills, a client-focused approach, and strong commercial awareness. You should exhibit effective time management skills, the ability to adapt to change, and the capability to prioritize tasks under pressure. A valid UK driving license is essential for this position.

Compensation Package

Colas offers a competitive compensation package, which includes:

  • A salary range of £40,000 to £50,000, based on experience, plus a Company Car or Car allowance.
