Job Title: Principal Engineer – Metrology

Location: Barrow-In-Furness

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Perform and supervise high-level calibration and repair of Mechanical Test, Measurement, and Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE), including resource management and calibration workload sign-off.
  • Develop and review calibration procedures and measurement uncertainty budgets.
  • Participate in UKAS (ISO 17025) audits and achieve UKAS signatory status.
  • Deliver on-the-job training and experiential learning to apprentices and team members.
  • Communicate with technical stakeholders and consult on new measurement technologies.

Your Skills and Experience:

  • Extensive experience in a precision Mechanical metrology laboratory environment.
  • Understanding of quality systems and standards (ISO 17025 / ISO 9001).
  • Relevant academic qualification (STEM Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent).

The calibration department supports 30,000 pieces of equipment per year, ranging from traditional analogue equipment to state-of-the-art digital systems.

We offer relocation support packages across all Submarines roles, subject to meeting eligibility criteria.
