Job Title: Principal Engineer - Metrology

Location: Barrow-in-Furness

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Engineer - Metrology to join our team at BAE Systems. As a key member of our Calibration department, you will be responsible for leading the dimensional calibration team and ensuring the delivery of high-quality calibration services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the dimensional calibration team and contribute to ICS Dimensional team leadership
  • Perform high-end calibrations and repairs on dimensional test, measurement, and diagnostic equipment
  • Deliver and measure the effectiveness of on-the-job training and experiential learning to team members and apprentices/graduates
  • Design, review, and approve calibration procedures and measurement uncertainty budgets
  • Participate in quality audits and achieve UKAS signatory status
  • Drive the increase in issue of UKAS/ISO 17025 accredited parameters and certification

Requirements:

  • Extensive experience working in a precision dimensional calibration/metrology laboratory environment
  • Understanding of quality systems and standards (ISO 17025/ISO 9001)
  • Relevant academic qualification (STEM degree, HNC/HND) or equivalent

About the Team:

The Calibration department currently supports 30,000 pieces of equipment per year, ranging from traditional analogue equipment to state-of-the-art digital systems. Our team focuses on the calibration, maintenance, and repair of TMDE capable of making length, flatness, parallelism, surface roughness, angular, optical, screw gauge (1D), and CMM (3D) measurements.
