Job Overview

This is a maternity leave cover Consultant post at King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. The postholder will have significant involvement in the delivery of cardiac anaesthesia both during daytime cover and as part of the cardiac consultant on-call rota.

Key Responsibilities
  • Shared responsibility with other Consultants for providing 24 hours, 7 days a week cover for the Unit on a rota basis.
  • Responsible for covering colleagues' periods of annual leave and short-term sickness.
  • Provide clinical supervision of junior medical staff as a shared responsibility with other consultant colleagues.
  • Take an active role in the formulation, implementation and monitoring of the department's/Division's Business Plan.
  • Be aware of, and comply with, all Trust infection prevention and control policies.
  • Be accountable for implementation of the Code of Practice within own department/area of responsibility.
Person Specification
  • Full Registration with GMC and completed subspecialty training programme in anaesthesia or within 6 months of completion or equivalent experience.
Requirements
  • Wide experience and accredited training in most aspects of anaesthesia including cardiothoracic surgery.
  • Advanced cardiac training/fellowship and experience in TOE (transoesophageal echocardiography).
  • Accreditation in TOE (transoesophageal echocardiography).
Desirable Skills
  • Experience in day to day organisation of Pain and Anaesthetic services in a busy NHS Hospital.
  • Experience in day to day organisation of anaesthetic services in a busy Teaching Hospital.
  • Familiarity with current structure of Health Service and conversant with recent initiatives and changes.
Additional Information
  • Thorough understanding of principles of medical audit. Must have undertaken and completed audit projects.
  • Experience of clinical research.
  • Publication of relevant peer reviewed papers in the field of Anaesthesia/transplantation.
  • Experience of undergraduate and post-graduate teaching and exam preparation.
