Active Care Group is seeking a dedicated Specialty Doctor to join our team at Kings Norton Hospital in Birmingham. This full-time position, with some on-call requirements, offers the opportunity to contribute to high-quality intensive treatment within a clinically safe and caring environment.

You will be based on Hope Ward, a 12-bed Acute Mental Health service for men, alongside Lakeside Ward (women) and Manor Ward (men). Our Acute Wards provide care for patients who require step-down from PICU settings or those with complex, severe, or prolonged mental health issues.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Provide day-to-day psychiatric and medical management for patients under the supervision of the Consultant Psychiatrist.
  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including histories, mental state examinations, physical examinations, and necessary investigations to develop holistic management plans.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team (MDT) ward rounds and follow up on treatment plans.
  • Collaborate with referrers, families, and other organizations involved in patient care.
  • Engage in clinical and administrative meetings such as case discussions and governance meetings.
  • Participate in the first medical on-call rota. The non-residential on-call rota requires you to be available within one hour of being called. The hospital also has a parallel telephone consultant on-call rota and supervision to support first on-call doctors.

Your Qualifications:

  • Fully registered with the GMC & MBBS (or equivalent) qualified.
  • Recent experience in psychiatry.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Knowledge of mental health legislation and Codes of Practice.
  • Excellent communication skills, including interviewing, assessing, treating patients, and writing clear, comprehensive medical notes.
  • Commitment to continued professional development.
