Job Title: Deputy Director of Children's Services

Larne Community Care Centre is a dynamic and innovative facility that offers a range of services for the community, including a daycare, pre-school, after-school club, breakfast club, and youth club. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Deputy Director of Children's Services to join our team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting and overseeing the day-to-day operations of the nursery, providing direction for the team to ensure a safe, caring, and welcoming environment for children and their families. They will be responsible for maintaining all quality standards as regulated by the relevant statutory agencies associated with childcare and for planning, organizing, implementing, and controlling the necessary resources to ensure that services are promoted and run efficiently and effectively.

The Deputy Director of Children's Services will be responsible for providing activities for young children that will encourage them to reach their full potential and encourage parental involvement. They must ensure the development and safety of these children in accordance with relevant legislation, policies, and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as the fit person in charge of the building in the absence of the childcare manager.
  • Act as the designated child protection officer in the absence of the manager.
  • Provide line management, support, and supervision to staff/volunteers/trainees.
  • Support the manager in the continuous improvement, development, and provision of high-quality innovative projects for children.
  • Ensure daily observations are completed and evaluated to demonstrate positive outcomes for children.
  • Provide monthly updates to the childcare manager.
  • Take part in and help with the organization of LCCC special events and fundraising activities.

Requirements:

  • RQF Level 5 Diploma in Childcare Learning and Development or Playwork, or a relevant occupational qualification in Early Years Education, Social Work, Nursing, Teaching, or Health Visiting.
  • Two years' experience working with children 0-5 in a group-based setting gained within the last 5 years.
  • A knowledge and understanding of children's development stages.
  • Familiarity with all relevant policies, including Health and Safety, Safeguarding, Fire Safety, GDPR, and Equal Opportunities.
  • Awareness of key operational procedures within a childcare setting.
  • Commitment to equal opportunities and an understanding of equality and diversity issues.
  • Awareness of the importance of continual professional development.
  • Ability to understand issues that impact on quality of service and income.
  • Suitable to work with young children - Satisfactory Access NI check required.
  • An understanding of the play needs of young children.
  • Commitment to flexible working, including occasional evenings.
  • Commitment to and understanding of diversity and equality.
  • Valid Driving License.
  • Evidence of professional development.
  • Experience in the use of Microsoft 365, including Word, Excel, OneDrive, and Teams.
