We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Herd Manager to lead our dairy unit in Northamptonshire. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for the overall management and welfare of our herd, ensuring the highest standards of animal care and productivity.
About the Role
This is a challenging and rewarding role that requires a strong understanding of dairy farming practices, excellent leadership and communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee the daily operations of the dairy unit, including milking, feeding, and animal health.
- Lead and motivate a team of farm staff to achieve high standards of animal care and productivity.
- Develop and implement strategies to improve herd performance, including breeding, nutrition, and health programs.
- Collaborate with the farm owner and other stakeholders to achieve business objectives and improve farm efficiency.
- Monitor and control costs, including feed, labor, and equipment expenses.
- Ensure compliance with animal welfare and health regulations, as well as environmental and safety standards.
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A strong background in dairy farming, with experience in herd management and leadership.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with staff, farmers, and other stakeholders.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret data and make informed decisions.
- A high level of physical fitness, with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and lift heavy equipment.
- A valid UK driving license and proof of right to work in the UK.
What We Offer
We offer a competitive salary, a 3-bedroom house on the farm, and a 5-day working week with every other weekend off. We also provide access to training and development opportunities, as well as a supportive and collaborative work environment.
Location
The farm is located in the picturesque village of Barby, near Daventry, with excellent primary schools, village amenities, and public houses. We have good connections to the M1 and A45 roads.
