We believe that HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) technology is a sustainable long-term solution for energy transfer. This innovative technology is essential for transmitting energy over extensive distances and interconnecting electricity networks with minimal losses. Beyond energy transfer, HVDC technology enhances electricity quality and contributes to the stabilization of interconnected power grids. For offshore wind energy or long-distance underwater transmissions, direct current is the most viable option.

As an Embedded Control Systems Engineer, you will be a vital member of our Ireland & UK Service team, focusing on Protection. Your role will involve collaborating with various domains within Control & Protection, IT/OT, Hardware, and Operations. You will leverage your expertise throughout the entire lifecycle of our systems, encompassing design, maintenance, testing, integration, verification, deployment, and documentation of functions essential for the safe and reliable operation of plants and transmission links.

Qualifications and Skills:

Essential:

  • A degree in Electrical/Power Engineering or a related field relevant to HVDC Control and Protection systems.
  • Experience in software development and programming, preferably in power system applications.
  • A strong inner drive and the ability to complete tasks effectively, demonstrating problem-solving skills and a willingness to tackle new challenges.
  • Familiarity with HVDC Control & Protection is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Knowledge of IT networking fundamentals and SCADA testing and implementation.
  • Ability to work under pressure and independently.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Team-building capabilities.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English.
  • A full clean driving license.

Beneficial Skills:

  • Previous electrical/mechanical authorizations, such as CP, AP, SAP.
  • Relevant trade qualifications in an engineering discipline, e.g., electrician.
  • At least 5 years of experience in HV power systems.
  • Experience with HV (>132kV) substations (other high voltage ranges considered).
  • Maintenance and fault-finding experience with high voltage equipment.
  • Experience in maintenance and fault-finding with low voltage and mechanical systems.
  • Ability to deliver technical reports and conduct fault analysis.
  • Awareness of impressed voltage.
  • Experience in IT/Cyber security.
