Hatfield, Hertfordshire, United Kingdom Ocado Group Full time
Ocado Group is committed to being an equal opportunities employer, ensuring that all prospective employees are treated with fairness and equality, irrespective of their gender, sexual orientation, marital status, race, color, nationality, ethnic or national origin, religion or belief, age, disability, or union membership status.

About Us

Our teams are transforming the retail landscape by leveraging cloud technology, robotics, artificial intelligence, and the Internet of Things. We offer services to partner clients globally through our cutting-edge advanced robotics technology, known as the Ocado Smart Platform ("OSP"), which powers our highly automated, multi-million-pound Customer Fulfilment Centres (CFCs). Within our CFCs, along with proprietary software applications, we operate a world-class online grocery business that automates the individual picking of products, ready for online delivery.

About the Role

This is a hands-on position and an exceptional opportunity for a seasoned finance professional to add value by implementing financial controls methodologies, policies, and procedures while reporting to the Senior Financial Controls Manager.

As the Senior Financial Controls Accountant, you will be a key team member responsible for designing and developing the Group's Financial Controls methodology for specific processes, implementing and monitoring financial controls, documenting risks and controls, training a diverse range of stakeholders, and liaising with the Group's Internal and External Auditors on related deliverables.

You will provide expertise and support to other team members and effectively assist the business during the design and implementation of these controls, facilitating any necessary changes through the rollout of risk and control matrices across the Group.

If you are an experienced Senior Qualified Accountant with a strong background in risk and controls, you will become the go-to subject matter expert for Financial Controls. You will thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic, and commercial environment, ensuring that Financial Controls methodologies are established and adhered to.

Key Responsibilities
  • Take ownership of the design, implementation, and ongoing monitoring of the Group's Financial Controls methodology, ensuring compliance with relevant accounting policies and procedures while incorporating the latest developments and best practices.
  • Support the design and execution of the financial controls plan to embed the second line within the Finance function.
  • Anticipate changes and contribute to the vision for the future development of the Group's financial control environment.
  • Act as a subject matter expert in the application of the Group's Financial Control methodology.
  • Collaborate with the broader Financial Controls team to ensure that controls in other processes and system controls are interconnected, addressing the end-to-end process.
  • Contribute to the financial controls vision and roadmap for the Group, including assessing opportunities for standardization and automation.
  • Oversee the testing of key controls and ensure that appropriate recommendations for improvements are implemented to maintain a 'no surprises' environment.
  • Deliver tailored training, guidance, and advice to both finance and non-finance teams, enhancing their understanding of the importance of financial controls in their respective areas.
  • Take ownership of the Finance Risk Register, Controls Self Certification, related validations of Financial Controls, or the Financial Risks on the Fraud Risk Assessment.
  • Assist in drafting papers for committees on Financial Control matters (Risk Committee, Audit Committee, SOC Steering Committee, Transformation Steering Committees, etc.).
  • Contribute to the creation of control metrics to monitor the control environment for end-to-end processes through a Financial Controls Dashboard.
  • Prepare KPIs, contributing to the monthly Financial Controls KPI pack and presenting as necessary.
  • Ability to interpret complex issues, distill key points for resolution, and develop effective, practical, and straightforward recommendations.
  • Encourage early involvement of the Financial Controls team in process changes to identify weaknesses and design necessary controls to mitigate risk.
About You
  • Minimum of 3 years post-qualified experience (preferably ACA / ACCA or equivalent); candidates with experience outside of this are still encouraged to apply and will be considered.
  • Proven experience in a similar role, with a background operating at Senior Financial Accountant level in internal audit, second line, or other assurance roles.
  • Experience in designing assurance methodologies (e.g., financial controls, internal audit, SoX), including the implementation, design, and monitoring of financial controls.
  • Familiarity with Risk and Control Matrices (RACMs).
  • Assurance Qualification (CIA/ CMIIA or equivalent).
  • Experience with COSO methodology is highly desirable.
