Position Overview
Job Title - Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specializing in Lower Limb Surgery with a focus on Joint Replacement.
Weekly Commitment - 10 Programmed Activities.
Contract Type - Fixed Term for 12 months.
Compensation - Competitive salary range.
Departmental Context
The department has experienced a significant rise in patient referrals, necessitating an increase in staffing to meet service demands effectively.
The successful candidate will be expected to engage actively in Hip and Knee surgical procedures and provide mentorship and guidance to fellow consultants to uphold service standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Assume ongoing responsibility for the care of patients assigned.
- Deliver consultation and advisory services to clinical colleagues across various specialties within the organization.
- Foster and maintain collaborative relationships with medical professionals in other specialties, participating in regular clinical meetings and educational activities.
- Establish and sustain effective communication with General Practitioners and relevant external organizations.
- Contribute to the management of emergency patient care.
- Encourage and facilitate effective communication systems within the team.
- Adhere to all relevant organizational policies and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with trust-wide standards to enhance the quality of care provided.
- Participate in clinical governance, risk management, and clinical audit activities to ensure safe clinical practices.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential
- Medical degree (MB ChB or equivalent).
- Fellowship in Trauma and Orthopaedics (FRCS or equivalent).
- Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC).
- Specialization in Lower Limb Joint Replacement Surgery.
Desirable
- Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) certification or equivalent.
- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via CCT or CESR.
Skills and Competencies
Essential
- Extensive training and experience in Hip and Knee surgery, including trauma and peri-prosthetic fracture management.
- Ability to manage general trauma cases and complex fractures.
- Experience in teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
- Proficient in information technology.
Desirable
- Previous experience as a Consultant, either in a locum or permanent capacity.
