POSITION OVERVIEW:
We invite you to become a part of our Test & Development team in Farnborough as an Electrical Technician. In this role, you will collaborate with a dedicated group of technicians, focusing on electrical systems while also assisting with mechanical tasks in our workshop. Work alongside T&D Engineers to assemble and configure vehicles with the necessary components and instrumentation for testing purposes.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Diagnostics:
- Perform expert fault diagnosis and resolution on all electrical systems and CAN network harnesses.
- Engage with both high and low voltage systems for electric and hybrid vehicles.
- Utilize diagnostic software for engines, gearboxes, CAN, and vehicle systems.
Electrical Tasks:
- Construct and modify harnesses based on technical drawings (24V, High Voltage, and CAN).
- Develop vehicle harnesses to connect base units or components with essential information.
- Identify and implement appropriate termination plugs and sockets.
- Conduct comprehensive fault diagnosis and resolution.
- Maintain a strong understanding of vehicle harnesses and various termination components.
Mechanical Tasks:
- Remove and replace components, ranging from individual units to axles and drive trains.
- Fabricate necessary brackets for prototype systems.
Work Ethic:
- Work independently, utilizing your initiative to meet project deadlines.
- Exhibit strong problem-solving abilities to address issues effectively.
Health & Safety:
- Ensure safety protocols are followed, using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and maintaining a tidy work environment.
Proactive Approach:
- Anticipate and address challenges that arise during testing proactively.
Travel Requirements:
- Be prepared for site-based work, which may include visits to other company locations and proving grounds, with potential overnight stays and occasional international travel.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR SUCCESS:
- Solid knowledge and experience in automotive electrical and mechanical systems, preferably in commercial vehicles.
- Ability to interpret electrical schematics and circuit diagrams.
- Experience in updating circuit diagrams.
- Familiarity with high voltage and CAN systems.
- Proficient in fault diagnosis and resolution.
- Experience with instrumentation and data logging tools.
- Ability to conduct mechanical tests.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proficient in MS Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel).
- Possession of a PSV or HGV license is advantageous.
- Basic knowledge of workshop machine tool operation.
- Ability to work autonomously.
- Experience with laptop-based diagnostic tools.
- Familiarity with instrumentation and data logging equipment (both Analogue and CAN systems).
- Experience in the automotive sector, particularly with buses, coaches, HGVs, specialized vehicles, or tier-1 suppliers is preferred.
- We also welcome candidates with experience from mobile plant, rail and rolling stock, aerospace, marine, or other complex engineering fields.
IDEAL CANDIDATE EXPERIENCE:
- Experience in a vehicle test environment.
- Familiarity with various types of instrumentation and their applications.
- Ability to learn and utilize laptop-based data logging software and diagnostic tools.
- Experience in vehicle and drive line construction, commissioning, and operation.
