About the Role

The Public Health Wales Executive is seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to join our Quality and Safety team as an Assistant Quality and Safety Manager. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a dynamic team to drive improvements in the quality and safety of care in Wales.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the national systems and processes for National Incident Reporting, including operational day-to-day oversight of the incident management system (Datix).
  • Identify incidents requiring escalation and develop and deliver reporting functionalities.
  • Collate and analyze relevant data to identify and escalate areas of risk.
  • Develop audits and other processes to ensure the system is operating efficiently, effectively, and with maximum benefit.
  • Provide advice and support to colleagues on areas within their remit.

Requirements

  • Experience of carrying out RCA investigations into complex incidents or complaints.
  • Leading on resolution of complex contentious issues with senior managers and senior clinicians.
  • Producing Board-level reports.
  • Interacting with all levels of staff and the public and communicating with confidence at senior manager and directorate level.
  • Presenting to groups at all levels.
  • Using Datix.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

  • Management qualification.
  • IQT Bronze level / silver.
  • Ombudsman legislation and working practices.
  • QI Processes.
  • Implementing change and leading others through change.
  • Directly line managing teams and all relevant management duties including, supervision, appraisal, training, and development.
  • Liaison and partnership working with stakeholders including services user/carers, members of the public, and a wide range of stakeholders.

Working on behalf of Welsh Government, the NHS Wales Executive's role in supporting this mission is to provide strong national leadership and strategic direction, and enable, support, and, where necessary, intervene to ensure the delivery of national priorities and standards, and safeguard and improve the quality and safety of care.
