Assistant Director of Quality and Patient Safety

Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join our Quality and Safety team at Public Health Wales. As the Assistant Director of Quality and Patient Safety, you will play a key role in supporting the development of the National Quality & Safety agenda in Wales.
The NHS Wales Executive is a new, national support function and an essential element in making the health system in Wales fit for the future and achieving A Healthier Wales vision of a whole-system approach to providing excellent health and social care across Wales. Working on behalf of Welsh Government, the NHS Wales Executive's role in supporting this mission is to provide strong national leadership and strategic direction, and enable, support and, where necessary, intervene to ensure the delivery of national priorities and standards, and safeguard and improve the quality and safety of care.
This role will work for the NHS Executive, in the Quality & Safety team of the Performance and Assurance Directorate. You will be joining an experienced team who are highly focused on patient and staff safety and quality assurance. The team is values-led and has a strong ethos of innovation and collaboration with NHS organisations and other key national stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Operational day-to-day oversight of the incident management system (Datix)
- Identification of incidents requiring escalation
- Development and delivery of reporting functionalities
- Collation and analysis of relevant data to identify and escalate areas of risk
- Development of audits and other processes to ensure the system is operating efficiently, effectively, and with maximum benefit
- Provision of advice and support to colleagues on areas within their remit
Requirements
- Experience of carrying out RCA investigations into complex incidents or complaints
- Leading on resolution of complex contentious issues with senior managers and senior clinicians
- Producing Board-level reports
- Interacting with all levels of staff and the public, communicating with confidence at senior manager and directorate level
- Presentation skills and ability to articulate effectively
- Developing robust action plans
